EMBROIDERY

Feminine-Human hair triangle

[Stitched  hair on plastic]

In my culture, embroidery has always been women's affair, and so did I learn as a kid. Women getting together to stitch various scenes on canvases, mainly landscapes or flowers was a former way of socializing. nowadays, stitching is a natural act on my hands, and it was in my late 20's that I associated qualities of gender identity with that action.

The following pieces were attempts to use stitching to emphasize aspects of femininity, the complexity of female thinking, and the female wisdom all enclosed in that simple act.
